DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

ANALYSIS - RISKS - SAFETY

Risk analysis and mitigation tools to protect workers' health and safety in working environments subject to digital transformation

The TRADARS project will conduct a detailed analysis of the impacts that digitalisation may have on the protection of workers' health and safety, by identifying priorities for action and defining specific mitigation tools to respond to new emerging risks.

The need to know and understand the complexity of the phenomenon has focused the project on the following analyses:

  • Analysis of changes due to digital transformation in the workplace, highlighting the regulatory framework and legislative strategies in place for the protection of workers

  • Analysis of new organisational risk factors, including the review of organisational risk management practices, from the perspective of processes and activities

  • Analysis of competencies involved in digitalization processes, which are necessary for occupational risk mitigation

  • Analysis of the production areas in terms of their specific exposure to the new risk factors identified

Project duration: 2 years (the project started on 4 June 2020)

Objective 1 - Analysis of the digital transformation on health and safety at work

The output will be a comparative analysis, at both Italian and European level, of the regulations concerning the impact of digital transformation progress on health and safety at work in particular regarding protection levels for workers. In addition, an analysis and review of health and safety management, risk management and resilience engineering techniques concerning digital transformation for work environments will be produced. Finally, the current trends in the competencies and capabilities of critical workers in terms of occupational health and safety will be described in a technical document.

Objective 2 – Workplace resilience model for digital transformation

In addition to the identification of risks, it is planned to design and implement a resilience detection model for these risks. Furthermore, it is planned to create a web application for data collection, with subsequent validation by using company case (s). A statistical analysis document will also be provided as output with metrics useful for representing the resilience of organizations regarding the identified risks of interest.

Objective 3 - Definition of mitigation tools

It is expected to produce at least two different summary levels of the documentation, as well as a specific guideline for each new risk identified. Another expected outcome is a report on strategies and training models for the identification and management of each new risk that has been identified.

Objective 4 - Project management and dissemination of results

We adhere to careful project management with strategically planned meetings and shared validation of the results. The research activities will be the subject of scientific articles. Finally, there will be events dedicated to the dissemination of research results.
